The main focus of my research is to identify antimicrobial
resistance and virulence determinants in bacteria with a focus on
Gram-positive bacteria, especially in enterococci.
The effect
of modern farming and usage of antimicrobial on the presence and
prevalence of antimicrobial resistance throughout the farm to
fork chain has been studied and furthermore the effect and
transmission of antimicrobial resistance to the environment as a
result of animal production has been studied by genetic
characterization of bacterial clones and resistant determinants.
In more
depth classification of mobile genetic elements and their ability
to transfer inter and intra genetic has been determined with a
focus on plasmids in Gram-positive bacteria and development of
new molecular typing systems for these.
